From selecting materials to firing the final results, this book guides readers through the techniques of china painting. Each stage is explained and illustrated in detail, with a view to enabling even the beginner to progress with confidence. A series of projects includes full templates to trace, and step-by-step colour artworks, and the objects to be painted range from tiles, trinket boxes and jewellery, to vases, plates and figurines. There are chapters on understanding and mixing coloured glazes, how to apply the correct brush-strokes, the development and painting of designs, and the use of techniques such as lustres and gilding. The author has included details of the use and application of non-fire ceramic paints, and all the projects can be adapted for completion without the use of a kiln. Kiln firing is explained, and the book ends with a question-and-answer section on possible problems.
